Researchers have recently begun to investigate how specific growth constructs, such as students’ growth mindset and growth goals, are interconnected and work together to promote academic outcomes. Evidence suggests that such growth constructs are underpinned by an underlying growth orientation that is also positively associated with students’ academic outcomes. However, more work is needed to understand where these constructs may be truly distinct and where they may overlap. Using a bifactor ESEM, results of the current study provided further evidence that there were both unique and overlapping components of growth constructs. Furthermore, results demonstrated that there are different patterns of associations between growth orientation and specific growth constructs and students’ outcomes at school. Implications for educational interventions are discussed.
