Teacher educators seek to prepare future teachers to further students’ academic learning and overall development. In our practices as teacher educators, we recognize this begins with identity. In our pedagogical practice, we prioritize connecting with students around the issues that are central to their lives, and utilized intersectionality (Grant & Zweir, 2012) as a way of understanding and analyzing this complexity, stemming from the fluidity and multilayered nature of human experience. The findings from this study highlight the value of self-study for both individual reflection and the power of collective analysis. The salient features of this study revealed that there is a dynamic nature, and multifaceted identities and positions of both us as teachers and our students, each affecting the other.
