Black male initiatives (BMI) aimed at boosting Black male retention, graduation, and success have multiplied on college campuses throughout the U.S. Thus, this study sought to identify the benefits Black male collegians gain through involvement in these initiatives. This collective case study explored the experiences of 15 Black men involved in BMI programs at three historically White institutions. Through individual narratives, the men expressed how these programs: 1) connected Black males and created brotherhood among participants, 2) provided opportunities for growth and development, 3) allowed them to acquire support and skills to navigate college, 4) boosted their persistence, and 5) created a safe haven on campus, all of which enhanced their sense of belonging and overall success.
