Scale to Evaluate Democratic School Management With the Use of Item Response Theory

Abstract

This article presents the process of constructing a scale to evaluate the level of effectiveness of democratic school management at the state schools of Santa Catarina, using Item Response Theory (IRT). The results showed that IRT is a possible and efficient tool in this evaluation process, since the constructed scale allows identifying the potentialities and fragilities of school management, from a democratic perspective, and it also serves as a tool for the planning and management of public policies aiming at its improvement and, consequently, the promotion of education with social quality.
