Teacher leadership is always highlighted as a key to educational change. Recently there have been urgent calls for exploring how socio-cultural factor may affect teacher leadership, where social norms is a powerful yet insufficiently investigated concept in relation to teacher leadership. Using Q-sort technique and card-sorting task, this exploratory study adopted multi-method approach, including focus group interview and artefacts (post-it memos), to inquire novice teachers’ perceptions of teacher leadership and how they may be influenced by social norms in the Asian school context. Findings including teachers’ perceptions of teacher leadership and how social norms may influence such perceptions are presented, as followed by a discussion of implications for school development and future research at the end of the paper.
