Educational Interventions for Looked-After Children: A Design and Implementation Study of "The Attach Project"

Abstract

The following paper details the rational and methodology of a design and implementation study being conducted in Northern Ireland, through a partnership between Queens University Belfast, The Education Authority Northern Ireland and The Department for Education Northern Ireland. ‘The Attach Project’ (TAP) is a relational based intervention aimed at improving outcomes for looked-after children through improved practice and direct intervention in schools. This research study utilises a mixed-methods design consisting of quantitative, qualitative and observational measures, with stakeholder involvement being considered an integral component. The aim of this research is to assess evidence of promise for the effectiveness of TAP as well as identify any relevant implementation factors, assumptions and potential barriers to the implementation of the programme.
