Intercultural education is given only minor attention in teacher education. This study aims at fostering intercultural competence in pre-service teachers through an international Problem-Based Learning (PBL) setting. Digital media were used to support international interactions. The results of a quasi-experiment including 82 pre-service teachers from a German and Austrian university indicate that a digital PBL compared to a traditional PBL is more appropriate to facilitate intercultural competence. In the continuation of this project international interactions and cultural heterogeneity will be extended by involving participants from other countries (e.g., Israel).
