A Longitudinal Investigation of a Subjective Well-Being Intervention on the School Level for High School Students

Fri, April 17, 4:05 to 6:05pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

Performance pressure and competition are key characteristics of many students’ school life, affecting their subjective well-being (SWB). Research suggests a vicious circle of emotional exhaustion, low motivation, and poorer attainment. As a result, students’ social and emotional wellness is affected. This longitudinal study investigates a school level intervention (Wellness Center availability) to support students’ SWB. Students in eleventh grade from two high schools with similar student body, one with recently established Wellness Center availability, were compared with respect to outcomes in the three areas of SWB at measurement point (MP) II controlling for MP I: positive affect, lack of negative affect, and life satisfaction. Results shed light on possible support measures to foster a satisfied and healthy life in students.
