This paper outlines a working theory of action to change the grammar of schooling at scale, drawing from a comparative analysis of three movements of widespread pedagogical transformation in the Global South that fundamentally transformed teaching and learning across thousands of schools in historically marginalized communities: the Learning Community Project (LCP) in Mexico, Escuela Nueva (EN) in Colombia, and Activity Based Learning (ABL) in the state of Tamil Nadu in South India. Based on a comparative analysis of in-depth case studies featuring these three movements, we identify eight principles of action to change the grammar of schooling at scale. The authors examine the collaboration partnerships they established with organizational stakeholders who designed, led, and carried on these movements.
