The Raices of Latinx Leaders: A Framework of Culturally Embedded Leadership

Sun, April 19, 12:25 to 1:55pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

The percentage of Latinx leaders, 7%, has remained largely unchanged from the 1980’s, while the number of Latinx students has grown to 26% (NCES, 2019). The “mismatch” between principal and student demographics is most stark in Latinx schools. When it comes to conceptualizing of Latinx leadership, research rarely goes beyond cultural congruence. This paper attempts to develop a conceptual framework that analyzes previous research in order to identify the unique leadership characteristics of Latinx leaders.
