Dialogic Feminist Gatherings: Empowerment of the "Other Women" to Prevent Gender-Based Violence

Sat, April 18, 8:15 to 9:45am, Virtual Room

Abstract

Women who do not have an academic degree have been generally excluded from public debates on the prevention of violence against women. In the Dialogic Feminist Gatherings (DFG) these women are reading and discussing reference works in feminism and the prevention of violence. The dialogic criteria on which DFG are based breaks the prejudice that this type of reading is not suitable for non-academic women. Moreover, DFG achieve to create an environment of respect and trust which has an impact on participants’ empowerment. Participants in the DFG end up developing an active stance regarding the prevention of gender violence, both in their private lives and in their community.
