Preservice Teachers' Perception of Their Technology Competencies: Application of the International Society for Technology in Education Educator Standards of 2017

Mon, April 20, 8:15 to 9:45am, Virtual Room

Abstract

This study was designed to gauge the current status of 377 preservice teachers' technology competencies as measured by a questionnaire aligned to the ISTE Educator Standards which reflect various roles of educators required in the rapidly changing technology era. The study found that the preservice teachers’ overall technology competency has not yet reached the proficient level of the ISTE Educator Standards. The teacher education program’s impact was significantly related to the preservice teachers’ overall technology competencies and there was also a significant effect of team-teaching experience on the preservice teachers’ overall technology competencies after controlling for the effect of the preservice teachers’ perception of their program impact on their technology skills.
