The Time Educational Leaders Dedicate to E-Mail

Sun, April 19, 12:25 to 1:55pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

Despite the pervasive use of email by educational leaders, few researchers have examined how email has contributed to the time use of school leaders. The purpose of this paper is to examine how email communication contributes to the workdays of educational leaders. The data included all fields related to the email addresses of the seven leaders between Sunday October 1, 2017 and Saturday October 7, 2017, except for the content of the email. Results aligned with prior findings and perceptions that email contributes substantially to the workday of educational leaders. However, findings revealed that educational leaders dedicated substantial time to email communication during the morning hours, rather than evenings and weekends.
