"You Can't Be a Half-Assed Feminist": (Re)Constructing the T-Shirt and Living a Feminist Pedagogy

Abstract

In this paper, we think with Sara Ahmed’s (2017) conception of living a feminist life to wonder and interrogate the daily pedagogical practices of being-a-woman. Specifically, we take up a series of interactions that occurred during a discussion group with women doctoral students. We, like Ahmed, turn feminism into a question as we dialogue(d) with these women. Our analysis involved asking are we moved to become feminists in dialogue with others and the ways that being a woman mattered in/visibly to women doctoral students. We conclude with considerations for (re)constructing the feminist t-shirt as women-academics, interrogating how and what it is we are living as feminist subjects.
