What Is Latinx? The Politics of the "X" in Latinx

Abstract

The term Latinx has gained popularity, and is a recent phenomenon used mostly in higher education. The online presence of this term has continued to grow but limited research explores how Latina/o/x students understand the term Latinx. This study documents how 34 Latina/o/x students relate to, identify with, and understand the term Latinx. Due to the (mis)understandings and (mis)usage of the term Latinx, the author provides recommendations of a new term.
