Summative results of state tests have been mainly used for end-of-year achievement reports and school accountability, however these test results can also be used for instruction and learning. In this study, we explored a method of aggregating item data into related measurement targets to communicate patterns in math performance at the state and district levels over time. Graphical visualizations show improvements in most measurement targets over time at the state level. We also discuss trends in strength and weaknesses areas across the grades. Results at the district level show variability in patterns within and between districts. This visualization can be used to start conversations about improving teaching and learning.
