The Development and Implementation of an Orchestration Tool Based on Live Action Log Data

Tue, April 21, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

In our prior work with undergraduate engineering courses, we encountered student teaching assistants (TAs) who received little or no preparation for teaching, and struggled to identify group difficulties or intervene effectively. In this paper, we describe an orchestration tool that we developed based on analysis of video and action log data, in order to create models which were then used to conduct live analysis of students in a classroom. This live analysis was provided to TAs during a semester long implementation study in 5 classes. Initial analysis indicates further work is needed to refine the models, but that the majority of TAs found the tool to be useful in helping them understand which groups needed help and how to intervene.
