Queen's Liberation and Lesbian Liberation: The Queer(ing) Possibilities of Stonewall 50

Sun, April 19, 8:15 to 9:45am, Virtual Room

Abstract

At the 50th Anniversary of Stonewall, we return to the moment as curriculum and for curriculum. There is the literal curriculum of gay rights and questions about whether the LGBTQ+ revolution has yet occurred. The return to Stonewall, not as a notation on a timeline, but to truly take up the event, its deliberations and the queer contestations these invoke provide opportunity to reexamine gender and sexuality. This paper examines the queer lessons we were confronted with in designing curriculum and the materials teachers shared with us. Rather than a pessimistic paper that schools are not meeting the standard, we employ Gaga Feminism and see the retraining and reimaginations Stonewall 50 make possible.
