Sat, April 18, 8:15 to 9:45am, Virtual Room

Abstract

Descriptive statistic, logistic regression and sheaf coefficient method were used to explore the condition of postgraduate education expectation of first-generation college students and to compare the effect of the background, college support, and individual effort contributing to their expectation. The data comes from China College Student Survey conducted from 2015-2017. Results show that the proportion of postgraduate study expectation of FGCS is 8.61% lower than that of non-FGCS. In addition, it is campus support and individual effort play a stronger role in FGCS postgraduate expectation rather than background characteristics. To be more specific, university support and cognitive learning engagement play the most important role. Theoretical and practical implications of the findings, study limitations, and future research directions are discussed.
