Creativity Belief Bias Among Educators: The Influence of Fixed Creative Mind-Set and Creative Self-Efficacy

Abstract

Educators holding creativity bias beliefs may be limited in their motivation and capacity to implement creative pedagogy. This study examined the latent structure of a creativity bias scale among education students (n=209). Factor analyses indicated a three-factor structure for creativity bias. Creativity bias was regressed on four predictor variables representing educators’ self-beliefs: creative self-efficacy, desirability of creativity, growth creative mindset, and fixed creative mindset. The model accounted for up to 30% of the variance in creativity bias beliefs though generally, the measured level of creativity bias among the educator sample was low. Fixed creative mindset was the most robust predictor in every model demonstrating a positive relationship with creativity bias. Creative self-efficacy was inversely related to arts bias.
