Mon, April 20, 12:25 to 1:55pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

This study examines the concurrent struggle of teacher preparation in middle schools nationwide. The study used a national sample of teachers to examine the extend of specific professional development (PD) training teachers serving English Learners (ELs) received, geared specifically to address the academic needs of ELs in upper grade levels (7, 8 & 9). This study also examined whether there are perceived differences in regards of the PD received among teachers by the actual number of ELs they have in their classroom. A unique sample of 1,926 teachers was identified and grouped according to the number of ELs they served. Results indicate significant differences on the amount of PD hours for all groups. Implications for further research are discussed.
