Increasing the Reach and Impact of Female-Focused Sport Equity Programs Through Social Franchising

Sat, April 18, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

Within Canada, female-focused sport equity programs addressing issues such as confidence building, leadership skills, and fostering physically active lifestyles, have increased. These grass roots programs are developed and implemented in isolation and continue to be stand-alone operations. Consequently, the reach and impact of these equity sport programs continues to be limited. Although individual efforts do create services that work well, expansion strategies for replication are limited. The researchers of this collaborative project will illustrate how action research, community partnerships, and the application of social franchising can increase the reach and impact of a successful, locally run, non-profit, female-focused sport equity program.
