Abstract

This study examines a program which encourages Career and Technical Education (CTE) course-taking in Texas high schools. This program is called: Rio Grande Valley Linking Economic & Academic Development (RGVLEAD). RGVLEAD is a consortia comprised of multiple secondary schools, postsecondary institutions, and various workforce and community stakeholders for that region. Business, industry, and community leaders actively participate in and encourage transformation of secondary schools to improve graduation rates, build relationships between students and positive adult role models, and support positive outcomes after high school graduation, including further education and entry into high-wage, high-demand careers. Findings from this study have direct implications towards new directions in policies and practices that shape leadership decisions in the area of CTE.
