The Effects of Nudges on Students' Use of Feedback About Self-Regulated Learning

Mon, April 20, 4:05 to 5:35pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

The Diagnostic Assessment and Achievement of College Skills (DAACS) is a suite of free, online assessments and supports designed to optimize newly enrolled students’ success in college. Findings from a randomized control trial experiment indicated that DAACS is helpful to students who used the feedback and resources it provides. In order to increase student use, experiments were conducted to examine the effects of four kinds of nudges. The results indicate that nudges that inform students of the benefits of completing the DAACS were more effective than social norms nudges. Nudges that reminded students to review the feedback and resources related to their academic weakness were more effective than nudges to review the feedback and resources about their academic strengths.
