Despite the wide presence of references to principal meetings in academic and trade publications literature, the principal meeting itself has escaped much research attention (Riehl, 1998). Therefore, this review studies how principal meetings have been characterised across diverse bodies of scholarly work and trade publications. Based on the wide mentions of principal meetings, the paper infers four conceptualizations of principal meetings as a waste of time, routines events, intervention tools, and collaboration technologies. The paper argues that it is time to defamiliarize the ubiquitous, versatile, and taken for granted tool of leadership: the principal meeting.
