Mixed-Method Evaluation of a Network-Based School System Change Initiative to Personalize Learning in Massachusetts

Mon, April 20, 4:05 to 5:35pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

A promising approach to advancing educational equity and improving schools focuses on tailoring the instructional environment to the needs, skills, and interests of each student, known as personalized learning (PL). Implementing PL in schools is challenging and can involve changes in school systems and cultures. This paper presents the design and preliminary findings from a researcher-stakeholder collaborative evaluation of a network-based initiative in Massachusetts that aims to promote and cultivate PL throughout the Commonwealth. The evaluation uses a mixed methods design including social network analysis and success case method. Preliminary findings address the network across schools and districts; implementation of PL; and PL success cases.
