Teaching Resilience Online to Both Aspiring Teachers and Future Citizens

Sat, April 18, 4:05 to 5:35pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

This presentation introduces an online module on resilience in a first-year public school experience course, a seminar on international and cross-cultural education, a capstone course for the liberal arts program, and an introductory graduate teacher education program. The students analyze websites discussing resilience from the perspectives of individual reflections, programs and centers, and international resources. The students develop a reflective essay and participate in an online discussion. These documents are analyzed using Pro Word Cloud for key phrases and illustrative excerpts are gathered. The results of these analyses indicate that future teachers recognize the importance of resilience for their students and their professional lives. This project may serve as a model for other teacher education and undergraduate courses on campus.
