Creating Classroom Web Pages: Assessment of Evidence-Based Discipline Plans and Developing Teacher Self-Efficacy

Fri, April 17, 12:00 to 1:30pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

This paper examines preservice teachers’ experiences in creating webpages for an undergraduate Managing the Learning Environment course. It presents a constructive approach that allows students to demonstrate their application of evidence-based theories by creating a live classroom webpage with discipline plan. Empirical data collected from this undergraduate course include students’ webpages, transcriptions of online discussion, the instructor’s journal, and culminating surveys of the course. Analysis of the data (N=300 students) gathered (2013-2018) revealed two consistent themes: 1) preservice teachers’ self-efficacy and skills significantly improved regarding discipline plan development and conflict resolution a result of this constructive pedagogy; and 2) students reflect applicable, meaningful learning utilizing current technology and anticipate fostering effective, positive management systems as future teachers.
