10 Years of Texts — and Relevance? Young Men of Color Reflect on a Decade of Reading Experiences

Abstract

This paper focuses on the ways in which a group of young men of color, all in their early 20s, have constructed relevance as readers over the last ten years. This is a longitudinal qualitative study featuring young men who attended the same single-sex school in New York City from grade 4 or 5 to grade 8. Findings point to the need to broaden understandings related to reading and meaning-making, in light of readers' intersectionalities.
