Professional development programs vary extensively in their short-term effectiveness, and achieving sustainable change is deemed to be one of the biggest challenges in education. Therefore, there is an increasing demand for an overarching theory of learning and changing and insights into how this theory should inform professional development processes.
The present study aims to deliver this and uses the framework for sustainable educational change as a starting point. It defines the guiding principles for designing professional development processes and translates these principles into a tool, The Kaleidoscope. A dry run of the prototype was performed to establish a proof of concept which evidences the feasibility and practical potential of the tool for teachers and school leaders.
