Unsilencing Boys and Young Men of Color: A Study of the Effectiveness of the RISE Data Portal to Build Local Capacity

Mon, April 20, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

This empirical study is interested in investigating the effectiveness of the Research, Integration, Strategy, and Evaluation (RISE) Data Portal project for Boys and Men of Color (BMOC). The RISE Data Portal is the first national database in the U.S. and globally to disaggregate data for major racial groups to support boys and men of color. Recognizing that empirical research and literature remain fairly scant, researchers at the University of Pennsylvania conducted three focus groups with key stakeholders – activists, advocates, policymakers, young boys and girls of color, and philanthropy. Findings suggested that the RISE Data Portal is a vital source of actionable information for stakeholders across research, practice, and policy at the national and local levels.
