Children Career Development: Experts' Perceptions

Fri, April 17, 12:00 to 1:30pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

Developmental perspective in vocational psychology is well-accepted in the field of career development, while our understanding of the nature of this developmental process at an early age is limited. Hence, the current study explores what ten experts (9 women, 1 man) and five parents (3 women, 2 men) consider to be essential components of career development at an early age. Thematic analysis revealed seven skills and abilities: exploration, decision-making, occupational knowledge, awareness of relationships, future perception, self-regulation and self-efficacy in managing life roles.
