Moving Forward: Lessons Learned From a Collaboration Network Aimed at Developing Digital Skills in New Brunswick

Abstract

We present lessons learned over a five years collaborative project in which we initiated a research partnership network where researchers and community partners collaborated to develop and better comprehend the information and communication technologies skills required by citizens of New Brunswick (Canada) to fully participate in the workplace and in everyday life. We examined exemplary practices targeting the development of life-long digital skills, from early childhood to adulthood. Results from our numerous case studies point to the need for a more inclusive and systematic vision of the future as it relates to digital citizenship. Our data suggests a comprehensive and dynamic model for the development of digital literacy, which incorporates three components suggested by our partners: e-Inclusion, e Enrichment, and e-Engagement.
