Building an Online Relational Learning Community for Educational Leaders: An Action Research Inquiry

Fri, April 17, 12:00 to 1:30pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

What are the essential components of an online relational learning community that can sustain and deepen educators' professional learning? This paper examines the growth of an online network which supports the learning of educational leaders who graduated from one organization’s two-year cohort-based program. Using community-based/participatory and practitioner research methods, findings revealed the complexity of harnessing the initial desire for connection when a cohort graduates. Findings point to network members’ diverse technological, intellectual, relational and practical needs, which require varied modes of engagement. Findings suggest action-oriented and research-based practices for ongoing professional learning for educational leaders. The paper illustrates how action research processes can help craft learning spaces that meet diverse needs of professional leaders in contemporary multi-faceted educational landscapes.
