Despite the focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in independent schools, there are few schools that are evaluating its impact on addressing issues of racial inequity. Lack of accountability makes it challenging for schools to determine whether they are meeting their stated DEI goals. This qualitative teacher researcher study examines the personal and professional impact of diversity responsiveness training on teachers and administrators through the lens of race and identity. Through document analysis, surveys, interviews, and self-reflections as a practitioner researcher, three themes emerged: 1) moving beyond colorblindness and White fragility, 2) power of identity stories, and 3) shifting teaching practices. These themes highlight the challenges and opportunities of implementing diversity responsiveness training in a predominantly White school.
