A Systematic Literature Review of the Use of Interim Assessments

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to provide a comprehensive review of current research on interim assessment practices in K-12. Specifically, this study was a review consisting of research articles and reports identified through systematic search criteria, forward and backward citation searches of a seminal article in interim assessment, and unpublished grey literature submitted from assessment vendors. Articles were coded for details pertaining to use prior to, during, and after implementing an interim assessment. Purposes related broadly to instructional, evaluative, and predictive usage. Findings will highlight the various discrete purposes and the available evidence, where it exists, supporting specific uses. Results will support schools in understanding the current advantages and limitations of interim assessments and elucidate areas for future research.
