Abstract

Teaching is a high-impact profession, and doing it well is not easy. Teacher preparation programs strive to produce teachers ready for the challenge, but attrition rates and general student achievement have yet to see the intended improvement. This study aims to illuminate the challenges of novice teachers as the only teacher assigned to a grade or subject compared to teachers assigned into a teaching team. Their perceptions of preparedness and ability to grow were also compared.
