Revolutionizing Education (2009–2018): A Systematic Review of Integrative Practices in Physical Education

Tue, April 21, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

If educational change is to occur, the foundation of multiple disciplines must be willing to transform (Fullan, 2006). One strategy is the integration of outside content into physical education. The purpose of this systematic review is to provide an analysis of the literature surrounding the integration of other content areas into physical education between 2009-2018. A total of 46 studies encompassing 12 different foci among other coded variables were identified within 29 different journals. Findings reveal a steady increase in articles published between 2013 and 2017 with most articles (47.8%) utilizing quantitative methods and focusing primarily on elementary participants (52.2%). Technology was the most frequently integrated area (64%) while subjects like language arts and history were rarely used.
