University Partnerships as Research-Practice Partnerships: A Unifying Framework for Educational Research and Practice

Abstract

Current literature has pointed to several opportunities for universities to bridge the gap between educational research and educational practice. However, most studies on these RPPs are single case studies of partnerships, making it difficult to see longitudinal effects beyond one case. The RPP model proposed in this study is part of a larger 12-year university-school partnership involving over 5,000 teachers and 84,000 students. The RPP provides multiple levels of support for deliberate reconnection of research with practitioners in urban, suburban, and rural areas focusing on the development of technology enriched learning communities using research-based teaching strategies. Results of this mixed-methods study indicate that the partnership model predicts technology use and influences supportive environments for increased change in teacher practice.
