The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of the summer collaborative grant programs in terms of changes in participants attitudes towards school and perceptions of the summer grant program in which they participated as well as their interest in specified career fields.
Overall, students’ persistence, attitudes towards math, attitudes towards science, and perceptions of summer program were significantly higher following participation in the summer programs. Results also showed a statistically significant increase in student interest in the field of engineering following participation in the summer programs. The summer grants programs surveyed may serve to help curb summer learning loss by providing activities that help students maintain or improve academic skills during the summer break.
