The Influence of a K–12 Arts Integration Grant on Principal's Decision Making

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to determine how a university’s three year grant for arts integration with an urban school district changed principals’ decision making. For the purpose of this study “Arts integration is an approach to teaching in which students construct and demonstrate understanding through an art form” (Kennedy Center, n.d.). Document analysis of program evaluations of the grant and interviews of the principals in arts integration schools were conducted to understand the impact on the school leaders’ decision making processes. Building on prior research about principal preparation programs engaged in arts integration, this qualitative research supports an emerging model for educational leadership preparation programs regarding the decision making practices of principals.
