Sun, April 19, 12:25 to 1:55pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

This qualitative study analyzed Latinx infant/toddler (IT) care teachers’ navigation of the intersection of their cultural and racial backgrounds with their practice and utilized collaborative reflective conversations to facilitate race equity pedagogy exploration. This study found that Latinx IT care teachers integrate their cultural capital into their practice, employing them as a means for navigating issues of race and power encountered in their practice and that this results as a direct influence on the quality of their practice. Furthermore, the study showed that the omission of Latinx IT care teachers’ voices in ECE IT literature is a hindrance to the field’s professional development goal of equity training for the IT care field teacher workforce.
