Instructional Intervention to Improve the Cultural Capital of Low-Caste Children in India

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to find out if teaching special lessons to improve the cultural capital of
students from poor communities would have a positive impact?” Literature recognizes that the cultural
capital of children from poor homes is low but it can be improved. This study used instructional
intervention for improving the cultural capital of students coming from the lowest caste in India. Selfesteem,
locus of control and sense of hope were identified as three constructs related to cultural capital. Pre
and post interview results showed that five days of special instruction had a great impact on the students’
cultural capital.
