This paper uses a critical literacy frame to explore how two researchers from a local university collaborated with a Pre-service teacher (PT) and a Dual Language cooperating teacher (CT) to plan, enact and reflect upon a critical literacy unit focused on social change. The study found that the university partners’ collaboration in the project mediated the teachers and the system, the teachers and pedagogical content, and the relationship between the CT and PT themselves. We conclude with implications for the fields of teacher education, teacher development, and critical literacy.
