The Power of Collaboration Amid Scandals: Reintroducing the Role of Faculty in Shared Governance

Tue, April 21, 8:15 to 9:45am, Virtual Room

Abstract

This study responds to the following research question: What role, if any, do members of shared governance play in responding to university scandals and heightening accountability within higher education?” To answer this question, we explore the experiences of a large public university involved in ten scandals since 2015. Using resource dependency and institutional theory, the authors highlight how economic prosperity can limit a university’s ability to respond to scandals. The authors also highlight the role of faculty in dealing with university scandals and promoting institutional accountability.
