Global trends for accountability have become predominant in national teacher education reforms. This proposal explores interpretations of teacher accountability policies by policymakers and teacher educators in Singapore and Chile. These countries represent instrumental cases for understanding local responses to global trends in teacher education accountability policies, given their geographical location, organizational structure for teacher education, and cultural differences. Using the eight dimensions of accountability (Author, 2018) and content analysis, 18 local policymakers and teacher educators’ interviews were examined. We found different interpretations these actors have about policy, portraying different types of accountability notions. This research contributes to understanding the mediator role that local contexts play when adopting global accountability trends in teacher education.
