What Factors Are Impacting Job Satisfaction of Mathematics and Science Teachers?

Abstract

As the most cited reason for teacher turnover, teacher satisfaction can be impacted by many factors. However, little research has investigated whether these factors impact teacher satisfaction differently depending on teachers' current level of job satisfaction. Using data from The Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study 2011, this paper found school safety and order is the only factor that increases teacher satisfaction regardless of teachers’ current level of satisfaction. Other influential factors include years of experience, age, educational level, physical working conditions, parental support, and teacher collaboration. However, these factors impact teacher satisfaction differently depending on teachers' current level of satisfaction
