Bridge-Building: Antiracist and Culturally Sustaining, Collaborative Educational Conversations in Practice

Sun, April 19, 12:25 to 1:55pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

In this participatory case study, a graduate teacher educator and grassroots youth group facilitator shares research, teaching, and practice with a former preservice teacher and current classroom teacher, who also works as a youth mentor in the youth group. We share research, teaching, and practice that center antiracist and culturally sustaining pedagogies that, combined, support youth and a variety of community stakeholders in a community-based participatory action research project and in a high school classroom. Our findings suggest that this inquiry project provides opportunities for furthering justice to address educational challenges across educational organizations. Moreover, we reflect on the challenges and opportunities that exist in modeling antiracist and activist orientations for a variety of organizational stakeholders working toward coalition.
