Collaboration between teachers improves instruction and educational outcomes. As students with special needs are included in general education, collaboration between general and special educators is crucial for their academic achievement. However, traditional delineated roles between those educators have resulted in limited collaboration. This study built upon prior research with the purpose of identifying how Lesson Study influenced the collaboration between educators. An explanatory, sequential study followed four teachers, two general and two special education, as they participated in Lesson Study for instructional support and improved practices across classrooms. Results indicate teachers experienced benefits through the cyclical process of learning, appreciated teacher-led professional development, and owned responsibility for student achievement, moving away from the deficit model often associated with special education.
