Characteristic of our twenty-first century is not merely the prevalence of globalization but its intensification. The sense of transplanetary connectivity has led governments to consider how best to prepare students for such a global age. All over the world, education reform efforts centre on ways to equip students with desired twenty-first century competencies. While transnational organizations such as the OECD have propagated the spread of twenty-first century competencies, less attention has been paid to character dispositions. In this study, we report on findings from a comparative case-study of project-based learning in three schools in Japan and Singapore. We examine how these schools approach project-based learning and the degree to which this facilitates the cultivation of twenty-first century dispositions in students.
